The Job Challenge

The University required protection from dust, debris, and weather while renovating a new building complex on campus. The building provided a new consolidated entrance, additional classrooms, and student meeting spaces. The building was an anchor that pulled together a few other separate buildings. Together, it would be the new home for the College of Fine Arts and Media.

In addition to building requirements, the University had to maintain its ability to maintain and grow enrollment while the new complex took shape. Combining the buildings would expand the arts program and help students feel more connected.  It helped to retain existing students and attract new students.

To renovate the building, exterior walls and windows would be removed, exposing the interior to unexpected conditions. The job required that extra safety measures were adhered to throughout the project to keep students, staff, and contractors safe during construction. The building renovation had a tight schedule to meet the expected completion date.

TuffWrap Solution

TuffWrap® EXT exterior walls and doors were easily installed without scaffolding. They are flexible for sealing contoured openings and engineered to cover large spans, even for projects above 50 feet high. The seven-layer polyethylene material provides the highest puncture resistance and tear strength for an exterior wall. TuffWrap EXT can withstand steady high-speed winds without compromising protection for the inside spaces. If an accidental puncture occurs, the diagonal and perpendicular scrim orientation resists tearing and continues to protect during construction.

In addition to the walls, TuffWrap EXT construction doors provided access to the area under construction while providing the necessary protection from the elements. The construction doors are scalable. They allow crews, personnel, and vehicles to move in and out of the worksite efficiently, offering easy access and egress points at the worksite.  The doors can roll open and close, perfect for frequent and long-term use. They helped enforce safety standards by allowing the area to be closed off except for the necessary workers.

Conclusion

TuffWrap helped the University to maintain and grow enrollment, which impacted the bottom line for the University during the construction of the new College of Fine Arts and Media complex. TuffWrap EXT exterior walls and doors provided temporary barrier protection during the renovation. They separated the outside environment from the interior workspace, temporarily enclosing the exterior of a structure. They created a stronghold to protect facilities and the people in them from dust and debris contamination and the elements, including foul weather. TuffWrap’s scalable and resilient solution for the University met the requirement to maintain operations and keep people safe while adhering to the construction deadlines.
