Brief Facts about Labor Day 2024:

The labor movement created Labor Day in the late 19th century to honor American workers’ achievements and contributions.
Laborers organized rallies and strikes during the Industrial Revolution to fight for better working conditions, such as fair pay and shorter hours.
September 5, 1882 – the first Labor Day parade is widely believed to have been celebrated in New York City
More than 10,000 workers from various industries, including children, marched from City Hall to Union Square on unpaid leave.
Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894
Labor Day is traditionally celebrated on the first Monday in September
Labor Day marks the end of summer for many Americans
